The aim of this research was to clarify the level of knowledge on safe use of the Internet among children, adolescents, their parents and teachers, as well as to enquire what they know about risks, opportunities and threats connected with the use of the Internet.

The most essential findings of the research:
  • 90% of children and adolescents use the Internet. 63% of children (aged 7-13) and 83% of adolescents (aged 14-18) use the Internet on a daily basis.
  • 75% of children and adolescents think that the Internet does not involve any danger.
  • 30% of children and adolescents have chatted on the Internet with strangers. Almost half of them have been on a date with their Internet “friends”. In addition, 36% of children and 20% of adolescents admit that the chat “friend” did not actually look like he or she had described on the Internet.
  • 56% of children and adolescents have encountered illegal/harmful content on the Internet.
  • 65% of children noted that they have seen unpleasant images with naked people. 64% of adolescents have seen pornographic materials (without any warning about such content).
  • 55% of children and adolescents have encountered with impolite, rude language on the Internet.
  • 20% of children and adolescents have been threatened or have received unpleasant texts.
